Chromium's function in our bodies is critical: without it, the hormone insulin would not work. Most people are familiar wtih insulin as the shot diabetics give themselves in order to control their high blood sugar. But, what most people don't realize is that insulin is the "master hormone" of our metabolism; not only controls blood sugar levels and many other aspects of carbohydrate breakdown and storage, but also directs much of the metabolism involving Fat, protein and energy (calories).
Because insulin requires chromium to function properly, this trace element has significant biological effects in the body.
