Bone Marrow

Multiple infusions of bone marrow, donated by the same individual that gives an organ such as a liver, pancreas or kidney, have been shown to improve transplant acceptance. DRI researchers are now attempting to identify those bone marrow cells that enhance transplant acceptance and, conversely, eliminate rejection.

In conjuction with the bone marrow studies, novel approaches are being developed to reduce or eliminate the risk of complications, such as graft versus host disease (GVHD), which are sometimes associated with bone marrow transplantation.
