Symptoms of Lows
The symptoms of a low blood sugar can be detected as early as a few minutes or
up to a few hours.
Watch for:
- cold sweats, faintness, dizziness
- headaches
- pounding of heart, trembling, nervousness
- blurred vision
- hunger
- inability to awaken
- grouchiness
- presonality change
What you can do:
- take liquids of food containing sugar (e.g. orange juice or regular pop)
- check blood sugar level
- do not give insulin
- do not give anything by mouth if unconscious
- if unconscious, give Glucagon according to package directions
- call your doctor or diabetes educator immediately
Causes:
- too much insulin
- not enough food
- unusual amount of exercise
- delayed meal
